The Invisibly Empowered Health Pyramid:                            Why I Created It

If you had told me twenty years ago that I’d someday be writing about health, I probably would have laughed. Not because I didn’t care about my health, but because I never imagined it would become such a huge part of my life. Back then, I thought health was pretty simple. Eat reasonably well, exercise when you can, get some sleep, and you’ll probably be okay. Then life happened, my health changed, and suddenly I found myself asking questions that didn’t seem to have easy answers.

Living with invisible illnesses has a way of changing your perspective. When you don’t feel well, you become incredibly motivated to figure out why. You start looking for answers anywhere you can find them. At first, I thought I’d find one doctor who would have all the answers. Then I thought maybe it was one specialist, one test, one medication, one supplement, or one new treatment away. I kept thinking I was just around the corner from finally feeling like myself again.

If I’m being honest, I have invested more into my health than I could probably ever calculate. I’ve paid for specialists, functional medicine appointments, lab work, certifications, courses, college tuition, health coaches, life coaches, books, conferences, podcasts, memberships, supplements, therapies, treatments, and just about every educational resource I could get my hands on. I became an Integrative Health Practitioner because I wanted to understand my body better. I spent years reading research, listening to experts, asking questions, and trying to connect the dots. Every time I learned something new, it answered one question but usually led to three more.

Looking back, I sometimes joke that I accidentally earned another education simply by trying to feel better.

The interesting thing is that none of it was wasted. Every doctor, every class, every certification, every success, every setback, and yes… even every dollar I spent taught me something valuable. But somewhere along the way, I noticed something that surprised me.

The people I was learning from weren’t necessarily disagreeing with each other.

They were simply talking about different levels of health.

One expert was discussing gut health. Another focused on hormones. Someone else specialized in stress management. Others were passionate about sleep, movement, nutrition, functional medicine, biohacking, mindset, relationships, or longevity. Every one of them had valuable information, but without a framework it felt like trying to put together a thousand-piece puzzle without knowing what the picture on the box was supposed to look like.

That’s when I started asking myself a different question.

What if all of these pieces fit together?

What if health isn’t about choosing one expert over another, but about understanding where each piece belongs?

That’s how the Invisibly Empowered Health Pyramid was born.

I didn’t create it because I think I have all the answers. Quite the opposite. I created it because I spent years collecting pieces from some incredibly knowledgeable people, and I needed a way to organize everything I had learned into something that actually made sense. I wanted a framework that I could come back to whenever I felt overwhelmed by the latest health trend or the newest miracle product everyone seemed to be talking about.

What I realized is that we often spend our time looking at the top of the pyramid while ignoring what’s holding it up.

We chase the newest supplement before asking whether we’re sleeping enough.

We spend hundreds of dollars on wellness products while surviving on coffee and whatever we can grab between meetings.

We wonder why we don’t have the energy to exercise while running on five hours of sleep.

I’ve done it. Maybe you have too.

Don’t get me wrong—I still love learning about new research, innovative treatments, and the incredible advances happening in medicine and wellness. Some of those tools have absolutely helped me, and you’ll see many of them discussed here on this website. But over the years I’ve learned that even the most advanced therapies work best when they’re built on a solid foundation.

That’s why the bottom of the pyramid is made up of three simple things: sleep, nutrition, and movement. They aren’t exciting. They’re not the topics that usually go viral on social media. Yet they influence almost every system in our bodies. Everything else we do builds from there.

As you move up the pyramid, you’ll see the other layers that support our health—our body’s systems, our mental and emotional well-being, our relationships and environment, and finally the tools that help us optimize our health. Every level matters. The key is understanding when and how to focus on each one.

The reason I’m sharing this isn’t because I think everyone needs to become an Integrative Health Practitioner or spend years reading research papers. In fact, it’s the opposite.

I don’t think people should have to spend thousands of dollars or years of their lives piecing together information just to understand the basics of how to care for their bodies. Health education shouldn’t be reserved for people who can afford expensive programs or endless appointments. We all deserve access to information that empowers us to make informed decisions about our own health.

That’s what I hope this blog becomes.

Not a place that tells you what to think, but a place that teaches you how to think about your health.

We are  going to walk through this pyramid together, one layer at a time. We’ll talk about sleep, nutrition, movement, gut health, hormones, stress, relationships, and so much more. I’ll share the science in a way that’s easy to understand, but I’ll also share my own experiences-the wins, the mistakes, the things that worked, and the things that definitely didn’t.

Because if there’s one thing I’ve learned through all of this, it’s that health isn’t about finding one magical answer.

It’s about understanding the whole picture.

I hope the Invisibly Empowered Health Pyramid helps you see that picture a little more clearly than I did when I first started this journey. And if it saves you a little time, a little money, or even a little frustration along the way, then every lesson I learned will have been worth sharing.

The One Small Yes

Take a moment this week to think about your own health-not with judgment, but with curiosity. Ask yourself, “Where am I building from?” Sometimes the biggest breakthrough isn’t finding a new answer. It’s realizing you’ve been asking the wrong question.

From Surviving to Thriving

One of the greatest gifts we can give each other is knowledge. Knowledge creates choices, choices create confidence, and confidence creates change. My hope is that this blog becomes a place where you feel encouraged, informed, and empowered to take ownership of your health-one small step at a time. We don’t have to do everything today. We just have to keep moving forward, together.
